What is a Dental Implant?
Dental implants are titanium anchors placed into the jaw that hold a replacement tooth securely under the gum. When you lose a tooth, you lose both the root and the crown. To replace the tooth, the surgeon first replaces the root with a small dental implant.
Bone grafting can repair dental implant sites with inadequate bone structure due to previous extractions, gum disease or injuries. Patients with bone density issues at the site of a dental implant will want to consider bone grafting to securely anchor a future implant.
Wisdom teeth are the last teeth to erupt within the mouth. The extraction of wisdom teeth is necessary when they are prevented from properly erupting within the mouth. They may grow sideways, partially emerge from the gum, and even remain trapped beneath the gum and bone.
